A Bit about Alice Bug and Her Adventures…

I was twenty years old, had just gotten out of a not-so-great relationship, and was missing my ex’s dog terribly. One Sunday morning I did a search for Dallas-area beagle puppies on Petfinder and I found the cutest, tiniest black-and-white puppies up for adoption. These pups were being shown at a nearby PetsMart that afternoon, so off to PetsMart I went! When I picked up this five-pound, approximately twelve-week-old little girl, I immediately fell in love. I refused to put her down (so no one else could steal her), started filling out the paperwork, and called my parents to announce that I was adopting a puppy!

Now, fourteen years later, Alice and I have had many incredible adventures together! Alice has always loved “going for a ride” in the car, so we took many road trips back to Colorado, where I grew up. We did a lot of hiking around Denver, Boulder, and further into the Rockies. In 2012, we moved to New York City and have spent a lot of time exploring Central Park, Riverside Park, and many neighborhoods, bars, and sights around all five boroughs!

From New York, Alice and I embarked on some wonderful road trips - one back to Colorado and Texas, another up to Niagara Falls and Canada, and one through New England. Then, about seven years ago, the doggo friends that joined us on these trips convinced us to try flying. This has been an absolute game-changer! Now Alice flies to Denver (and other locations) with me several times a year, and she took her first international flights in 2019!

I’m a public school teacher in New York City, which means I have several set holiday breaks throughout the year. I try to take full advantage of this time off by traveling as much as possible! A couple of years ago I began to contemplate using my entire summer break to travel - but of course this was only an option if Alice could come too! Alice is a very good traveler - read more about why in this blog post.

I started researching dog travel in Europe, as I had always heard that Europe is much more dog-friendly than North America. I was thrilled to discover how easy it is to bring a dog from the United States into the European Union! But I was rather disappointed about the lack of reliable information about the dog-friendly status of various locations. I did find a few dog travel blogs that were extraordinarily useful, which inspired me to share my own experiences traveling with a dog.

My intention is to provide information and describe my own experiences that will help others hoping to travel more with their pups! Because traveling is even better when you have a doggo by your side :)
